5 Memphis Holiday Events You Don’t Want to Miss
There’s only a little more than a week left before Christmas, but there’s still plenty of time to check out some of the best holiday events Memphis has to offer.
Here are some of our top picks that will help get you in the holiday spirit, but won’t break the bank:
1. Orion Starry Nights at Shelby Farms Park
Load up the car and take your family to see this awesome light display that features more than 1.5 million lights! It only costs $20 per car and the event runs every night until December 27.
You can also visit Santa, ride a camel and check out the petting zoo at Mistletoe Village. However, these activities cost extra.
2. Memphis Zoo Lights
The Memphis Zoo has a full lineup of holiday activities. You can check out their holiday light display, visit Santa and his reindeer, ride the Ferris wheel or some camels, and go ice skating.
It costs $6 for members and $8 for nonmembers. And, some of the activities require an additional charge. Zoo Lights is available on select nights between now and December 30.
3. Christmas at Graceland
Even if you’ve been to Graceland before, it’s worth another visit during Christmas. You can see the Christmas lights outside of the mansion for free, but mansion tours are offered at the regular price.
The entire mansion is decked out for Christmas until January 8, so you have plenty of time to check it out yet this year. Here’s the full schedule of when the mansion is open.
4. Pink Palace Museum Activities
The Pink Palace offers several ways to learn while getting in the holiday spirit.
The Magic of Science: Holiday Edition is a fun and interactive program demonstrating the science of the holidays. Watch how snow is formed and see static electricity. The program is offered on Saturday, December 14 and 21 at 12 p.m. Tickets are $4.00 for members and $4.50 for non-members.
The Planetarium Star of Wonder uses science to tell us more about the Nativity Star that guided the Magi.
The museum also offers two holiday-themed IMAX movies – The Light Before Christmas and Santa vs. The Snowman.
5. Enchanted Forest Festival of Trees
Get in the holiday spirit and help a good cause by visiting the Enchanted Forest Festival of Trees benefitting Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital. Wander through the enchanted forest complete with decorated trees, a gingerbread village, animated characters and a model train.
